About TapSafeWater
Our Mission
TapSafeWater provides free, official EPA drinking water quality data for every city in the United States. We believe everyone deserves transparent access to information about their tap water safety.
Our website makes it easy to look up water quality violations, contaminants, and EPA compliance information for your city — data that is often hard to find and understand on government websites.
How It Works
TapSafeWater aggregates official data from the EPA Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS), which tracks:
- ✓ Health-based violations: Contaminant levels that exceed EPA Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs)
- ✓ Water systems: All public water suppliers across the United States
- ✓ Population served: How many people depend on each system
- ✓ Historical compliance: Violations reported in the last 5 years
Data Source & Accuracy
All data comes directly from the EPA's SDWIS database — the same database used by regulators and water utilities. We update our records monthly to reflect the latest EPA data.
Water quality can vary between neighborhoods and even between individual water mains. For the most detailed information about your specific address, contact your local water utility or check your annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), which water utilities are required to provide by law.
Independence & Transparency
TapSafeWater is an independent project. We are not affiliated with the EPA, water utilities, government agencies, or water treatment companies. Our goal is purely to help people understand the water quality data that regulators collect.
About Tap Safe Water

Not a Substitute for Official Reports
